Horses For Newbies

Win or lose, either way you kinda win.

The good news? You don’t have to pony up the big bucks to get your heart racing. For as little as 2 bucks you can put your money where your horse is. So here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to the window. No need to be intimidated.

These guys are here to help you.

  2. Give the name of the track and

    the race number.

  3. Let em know how much you’re

    betting.

  4. Tell ‘em the type of wager.

    (see below)

  5. Give em the horse number – not the name – from the program.

EXAMPLE: “Hi there. Philadelphia Park, race three, two dollars to win on number 5.”

Win - You bet on a horse to finish the race first.

Place - You win if your horse finishes first or second.

Show - You win if your horse finishes first, second or third.

Across The Board - You place 3 different bets: a Win, Place and Show on your horse.

Doubles - Pick the winners of two consecutive, designated races.

Quinella - Bet the first and second horses to cross the wire. They can finish in any order.

Exacta - Bet the horses to finish first and second in that exact order.

Trifecta - Bet the first, second and third horses to cross the wire in that exact order.

Box - Asking for a box will allow your runners in Exactas, Trifectas and Superfectas to finish in any order. Boxing costs more because you receive more ways to win on your ticket.

Why the Track?

  • First of all, the magnificent horses. Springsteen wasn’t the only one born to run.

  • Did we mention the food, the drink, the opportunity to meet and mingle?

  • There’s money to be won. The louder you scream, the faster they run.
