Horse Tattoos, Too!

in Just For Fun

Our first horse tattoo gallery was a big hit, so we're at it again! We really enjoyed all the tattoos we found, so there's no "Good" or "Bad" sections. As our burnout cousin would say: "It's all good, man."

Tom Hill, The One and Only Horseshoe Sculptor

Tom Hill, The One and Only Horseshoe Sculptor

If you've been following us on Facebook, you'll know we deal a lot with used horseshoes. Suffice it to say, this would be a very difficult medium to create art with. And yet, 26-year-old sculptor Tom Hill exhibits a mastery over the steel, molding it into unique shapes and animals. He is the Edward Scissorhands of horseshoes. What? We’re not art critics.

Check out some of his work in the slideshow:

10 Breathtaking Photos of Racing Around the World

in Horse Racing

Horse racing takes many shapes and forms when you leave the commonwealth. Yet, the formula remains the same: a man on a horse moving really fast. Or they could be on a sulky. Or they could be a woman. Regardless, it's damn beautiful:

Horse Tattoos: The Good, The Bad, and the In-Between

Horse Tattoos: The Good, The Bad, The In-Between

We love horses. But some people love horses. So much so that they get them painted on their bodies- permanently (perhaps many of them forget that last part?). We've decided to scour the Internet for the Best, Worst, and In-Between of horse tattoos.

Keep in mind, while this gallery is most definitely safe for work, there is a lot of skin shown- albeit mostly backs and shoulders. Every tattoo is tasteful, aside for perhaps a "hustler" unicorn... you'll see.

The Guide Horse Foundation Will Strum Your Heart Strings!

in Just For Fun
The Guide Horse Foundation Will Strum Your Heart Strings!

Twelve years ago Janet and Don Burleson began training miniature horses as assistance animals, particularly for the visually impaired. With decades of background in the horse training business, the couple saw a unique potential in these remarkable animals. After years of refining and developing their own program, the Guide Horse Foundation was born.

Each horse is trained until they reach 100% proficiency within the exhaustive GHF program- ensuring the happiness and safety of the guide and guider. A miniature horse isn’t simply a tool for a visually impaired person, instead it's more of a long-term relationship. Many owners feel a symbiotic connection to their horse, and vice-versa.

Guide horses are extremely adaptable and versatile animals. They can live indoors, outdoors, in the hot and in the cold. They don’t “spook” or act out in chaotic situations. When it’s business time- they mean business. But that’s not to say they still don’t exude love and affection towards their owners- because there’s plenty of that.

Peruse the Guide Horse Foundation website and prepare to have your heart melted.

Be sure to check out the mini-horse shoe collection. I had to look away because the cuteness factor almost made my head explode. Ah, here's a couple, I can't help myself!!

They're called Reebucks! REEBUCKS!!!!

Nothing Like a Look at the Backside

Nothing Like a Look at the Backside

Sometimes the best part of racing is what you can't see during "the fastest two minutes in sports." The like of the jockeys and drivers, the grooms and groundskeepers, are so fascinating to the newbie fan. Here's a great looksee at how intense, how beautiful, and how busy it can be on the track, and on the backside, where the work gets done. And if you're really into it, ask your local trackster for a backside tour. More than likely, they'll say "you bet!" Or write smartypants@trackpackpa.com and we'll set you up for a backside tour, if you don't mind us calling it that. :)
